About Bazaar Audio

Bazaar Audio is a podcast production and consulting company that specializes in telling stories about the economy. We produce original podcasts that explore the relationship between markets -- what we make, buy, and sell to each other -- and how we live. We also consult on podcast strategy, development, and production for clients. We’re based in New York but happy to work with clients from around the world.

Cardiff Garcia, Co-Founder

Hello! Welcome to our professional digs.

I’m the host of The New Bazaar, our flagship podcast about the economy, and I’ve covered finance and economics as a journalist for nearly fifteen years now.

Until launching Bazaar Audio with Aimee in April 2021, I was the co-creator and co-host (with Stacey Vanek Smith) of NPR’s The Indicator podcast, a daily show about business and the economy.

And before that, I was the founder and host of Alphachat, the longform economics podcast of the Financial Times, where I also wrote and edited stories as the US editor of Alphaville, the FT's finance and economics blog.

On a personal note, New York City feels like home now, but I was born into an affectionate Cuban family in Tampa. We only spoke Spanish, which made showing up to Kindergarten kinda rough until my English caught up. Lunch was more likely ropa vieja than PB&J. The music was more likely 1950s Cuban Son than 1990s Alt Rock. It was fun.

And hobbies, yes, I have a few: I did Muay Thai – that’s Thai boxing, not tae bo, don’t get it twisted – for sixteen years until the pandemic made dojos unsafe. Knicks fan. Broadway. Old movies. Invite me into your book club.

Thanks for stopping by!

A bit about me: I’m an audio producer and host with a particular interest in crafting stories about the way the economy works (and the parts that sometimes don’t). I especially love the projects where I get to collaborate with thoughtful folks.

I got my lucky start in audio working with Cardiff on the Financial Times’ Alphachat podcast. Later, I created, hosted and produced the paper’s first narrative business podcast, Behind the Money.

I was also the US Head of Audio and Acting Global Head of Audio at the FT, managing a team of hosts, producers, engineers and freelancers across several shows and developing editorial and commercial strategy with some really wonderful colleagues.

Before moving to the US to pursue journalism, I worked behind the scenes on Canada’s top lifestyle tv show and briefly dabbled in front of the camera during the media industry’s great pivot to digital video. But it was so not the pivot for me. Alas, I’ve felt much more at home in the land of microphones and waveforms ever since.

And while I’ll always be a proud Ontarian, I’m happy to now call Brooklyn home.
